November Parish Council Meeting

Due to the date of the November PC meeting we missed the deadline for the December/January issue of ‘Roundabout’ so our correspondent’s report makes a guest appearance on the website;

At the November PC meeting it was confirmed that the Parish has received a £400 grant from Somerset County Council’s Improving Lives fund, to be used to provide equipment for the Village Hall. The Hall will also benefit from a Parish Council grant of £800 for essential maintenance of safety equipment, accessibility, and to support much needed improvement to the heating system.

South Somerset District Council’s Christmas Tree recycling scheme will include Aller this year. A drop off point will be available at the Rec from around 4 January, full details to be confirmed.

The annual review of Cemetery Rules was completed with councillors considering examples from nearby towns and parishes with particular concern for clarity and accessibility. In addition to copies being available for download from the Parish website, on request from the Council and from local Funeral Directors, printed copies are available at the Hall and Church.

The next meeting will be on Monday 13th January, 7.30pm at Aller Village Hall.

Volunteer Opportunity

Traffic speeding through the village is a major concern for Aller residents. To complement the activities of the Speedwatch volunteers the Parish Council have agreed to fund a Speed Indicator Device to encourage motorists to keep to the 30 mph limit. Two volunteers are needed to operate and manage the device which will be shared with two other parishes. There will be a one day course in safe working alongside the highway following which the volunteers will be able to attach a small electronic sign to a fixed post. The role would involve collecting the sign from a neighbouring parish once every 6 - 12 weeks, downloading data wirelessly using an app on a tablet that will be provided, and sharing the data with other groups by email. The role is unpaid but out of pocket expenses could be agreed. For more information please message the Parish Council via our Facebook Page.
