Recycling & Refuse Collection

Some recycling was not collected from High Street on Tuesday. District Councillor Gerard Tucker is working with Somerset Waste Partnership to ensure next weeks' collection is made. Current advice is to have refuse/redycyling out on the usual day but before 7am, for collection before the roadworks start for the day.

Roadworks day 2

From today there is a 24 hour closure at the Langport end of the village it will not be possible to squeeze through the gap as some people did yesterday.

There was an incident last night when a Fire appliance was delayed at the closure due to a communications issue between Somerset County Highways and the Emergency Services. The Fire Brigade routinely attend from both sides of the village and will amend their response for the duration of the works.

The issues of access, communication and the lack of a means to resolve issues as they arise have been raised with Somerset County Council and will be taken up by our County Councillor, Clare Arparcio-Paul.

Please be aware that the team doing the work are contractors and they are not responsible for decisions about closures, signs and the like. There have been several reports of them being helpful to residents with access issues and doing their best to help. Please treat the workers on site with respect.

There are clearly some issues with access and parking for residents as the roadworks get underway. We are in touch with Somerset Highways to try to find solutions. Please be patient, more information will be posted when it is avialable.

Refuse / Recycling will continue as normal but collections may be made at 7am so be sure that your bins and boxes are out in plenty of time.

High St. Closure Update 6 September

The Closure of the A372 High St. will be from Monday 11 September.

The work will commence with removing the road surface where the drains are to be installed. There will be trenches along and across High Street. This work has to be done first because the material used for past road surfaces cannot be re-used and must be taken to a specialist facility before deeper trenches can be dug for the new drains.

Due to the trenches along and across the road it is not possible to have a partial closure with traffic lights.

For most residents and visitors access will be from the direction of Othery.

The drain installation work will commence at the Langport end of the Village and progress towards the Old Pound. This means that for some people access will be from a different direction as work progresses.

Residents will have access to their properties but those closest to the site of excavations may have delays. Parking on High Street will be restricted.

Residents needing access and those who have no off road parking should speak to the contractors on site who will advise on safe access and where to park. It is important to note that this may change as work progresses.

Access for emergency vehicles will be facilitated at all times. Those with special medical needs or special access requirements such as deliveries, removals or events should contact the contractors on site to make any necessary arrangements.

Further information will be made available when possible.

Royal Mail have confirmed deliveries will continue as normal during the closure.

Enquires about School Transport should be made to / 0300 123 2224

Enquiries about the works before they commence or that cannot be resolved on site should be addressed to Somerset Highways on 0300 123 2224 /
